Sewing This Past Week....

I sat down to the sewing machine this past week to work on some gifts.  It is a refreshing thing to create something that I have not in the past.  And all three of these fit the bill for that!

Our older two girls just left yesterday for a trip to Arizona with my folks.  It was the first time they were on a plane-so it was very exciting!  Flying is not really an option with there being eight of us, so I was thrilled for the experience this will be for them!  I wanted to give them each something new to take with them that I had made just for them.  For Joslyn, I made a reversible sun hat...

and for Madison, I made her a travel case for makeup...

We were also celebrating my mom's birthday and it has been a few years since I have made anything for her, so I made a new travel tote for her crocheting and such....

And Joslyn painted her suitcase, making sure it was easy to spot and was a good representation of her!  I told her it reminded me of sitting on my dorm room floor painting my luggage in a vibrant flower power for a visit home.  I also remember my dad's smirk and head shaking when he picked me up at the airport.  Funny how now he is with my daughter and again, the flowers invade the trip;).

Now I'm just adjusting to the two girls being away-still seems lonely even with four kids still home. Such a perfect example of how each child completes a family and the family is just not the same when even one is missing.  They all are such priceless pieces in God's plan for our lives!  They are having a good time though and I love the memories they are making.

New Creations In Shop....

Learning how to weave with T shirt yarn has also brought along some other fun new creations. Joslyn had a birthday party to go to and I  wanted to put together something handmade as part of the gift which is how this all came together. Over the weekend, the girls and I learned how to make flowers out of the left over T shirt yarn.  Bell especially, just got immersed in making them.  She made headbands, necklaces, rings, and so on for all of our visiting family.  I too, have been enjoying a new craft and have put together some fun new creations for the shop.

The flowers make great headband embellishments.

So with that in mind, I have put together bundles of flowers for the shop.  They come in groups of 20.

I also send them out in a cute little cotton sack.

I added a headband in all neutrals this morning.

And a bundle of 20 neutral flowers which I figured could be a neat supply for wedding favors, accessories, etc.
And this is the newest rug off the loom.  Done in a spring colored palette and in a loose weave. It was added to the shop this morning as well.
Israel is beginning to get places, so I finished a rug for the living room last week to cushion those little knees.

On The Loom...

This is the current rug I have on my loom.
I tried a new weave out on my kitchen rug and liked it, so I am using it on this rug as well.  I am doubling up the weave going down.  It gives the rug a tighter weave.  Just takes double the time;), but it is worth it.

So Very Close to Finished...

We are so very close to being finished in the kitchen-Wahoo!  I am so ready to be done, and just in time to begin enjoying the outdoors...and gardening...and swimming....oh how I have missed the outdoors!

Here is what has been happening...
The hutch....got an update-clean and fresh...
We use mason jars for our drinking glasses.  Extremely durable.  This shelving unit was actually in our old pantry that we sealed up.  It used to be storage for canned goods.  It fits the glasses just perfect!
We have half of the flooring in and I am just in heaven with how it is looking!  Better than I imagined!

I have finished one rug for the kitchen so far.  It is a pillow for my feet.  I took all of the colors from the fabrics I chose and gathered up T-shirts in those colors for weaving the rug.  Hoping to get another one finished for at the sink.  I have been so pleased with how these rugs are holding up through washings.  This rug gets washed every couple of days due to traffic and has fared very well!
In the fabric for the kitchen, there are numbers throughout the prints.  I decided to add a bit of playfulness to our cabinets and number them.  Not only do I love the look, they are incredibly practical when having 7 people asking you where something is!  All I have to do is tell them what number cabinet to look in-and yes, I have them memorized;).

And finally, we built a message center.  Easy project from just 5- 1x8 boards and some cork board squares.  We are loving the "pop" of yellow against the grey.
